Competitors do or say! (sorry, but sometimes clarification are needed)

  • say – “it is not necessary to get up before dawn to see the best of the bay without crowds”, that is correct BUT forget to mention that the early start will also help to avoid the morning and afternoon traffic (really bad in Phuket from 7 to 9 am and 4 to 7 pm), from July till Nov, the early start also help to get back to the pier before heavy thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind (very scary when it comes) which normally occur in the early afternoon (between 2 to 5 pm), the early start help to get back to your hotel with plenty of spare time to enjoy your hotel’s swimming pool and relax before an evening out (not a chance with a late start), the early start also helps to “fit in” two activities in one day (elephant sanctuary or evening show) to maximise your time in Phuket and so much more that you will find out on the tour
  • say – “sustain the local ecology” but still, their tour guides will feed fishes and monkeys seen on the tour or ask their passengers to climb trees to take pictures like a monkey
  • say – “tour operators are increasingly using the ‘small group’ descriptor for tours that take 25 – 30 passengers…” forgetting to mention “on boats that are built and registered for 47+”. FYI, in Thailand, the license number of passengers can be changed quite easily (good contact and a smile) so, the actual size of the boat or living area should be considered or used when comparing operators and boats
  • say – “we are very confident no other operator in Phuket will ever match such low numbers”, well let’s talk about “living area” here. 18 passengers on 12 sqm (including uncovered area (3 sqm – that can not be used in bad weather and very hot days) can maybe make a person feel like a sardine and if compared with a similar type of boat, most Thai locally build boats, will at least have an approximate 22 sqm of living area to move around, for 25 pax, the area is much more comfortable. Now another comparison, 18 pax on 12 sqm in comparison to a big double-deck boat taking only 12 passengers on about 140 sqm, we can start talking about comfort and “low numbers”
  • do – “rev” their boat engines producing clouds of smoke and loud noises where one should stay quiet and respect mother nature
  • do – boats speeding (30+ knots) close to the islands (national park speed limit is 3 knots!) amplifying the limestone erosion and disturbing fauna and flora

Health/Fitness concerns

  • Please make sure to inform us while making your booking if anyone joining the tour might have any medical conditions we should know about (epilepsy, heart conditions, diabetes etc) so that we can at least slightly mentally be prepared in case something happened. Please understand that our ship moves slowly and the islands are around 2 hours away from the mainland + an hour from any hospital)
  • It is not necessary to be an athletic person or to know how to paddle. One of our staff members will be sitting behind you and paddling for you, so there is no need to worry about sore muscles the next day or the ability to keep up with the rest of the group
  • The canoes are little inflatables boats with a width of about 36 cm (15 inches).  Some people might find it a little tight when sitting in a canoe but will still enjoy the day
  • Disabled people or those with special requirements should make sure to let us know when making a booking.  Getting in and out of our big boat and the canoes can be tricky, but our team will always be happy to help.  So far, we’ve never had any problems.
  • If you are subject to claustrophobia or afraid of darkness, you must know that sometimes the access to the caves can be a little “tight” and very dark. Passing through the caves does not usually take more than 2 minutes, but we do recommend you let us know when making the booking so that we can either help to select the best day when we have lower tides or explain it to you with more details
  • Persons with a “large build” can feel a little uncomfortable when lying down in the canoes when going through the cave; please ask to see a picture to have a better idea of what your day will be, you might want to sit in a canoe alone for more comfort!

Which camera should you bring?

  • The canoes are very stable and safe, so there is rarely anything other than little splashes once you’re sitting in the kayaks
  • Our price includes 1 waterproof bag per kayak to protect electronic devices; we also sell waterproof bags on board
  • Smartphones or professional cameras can be easily used while in the canoes – at your own risk – but should be fine

Our employees

  • All of our employees are Thai nationals
  • They are proud Thai nationals willing to show the tourists that Thais are friendly and helpful (even in Phuket)
  • Their English skills are limited, and it was our choice to help them develop and improve in contact with our clients
  • We believe it is a better way to help local communities, instead of employing people fluent in other languages, meaning that they will have many ways to bother clients with tips, selling tours or other services outside our trip
  • Our staff are regularly enrolled in different courses: first aid, English, safety and rules at sea
  • Our Captain has over 30 years of experience in Phang Nga bay

Transportation

  • Our boat leaves at 5:30 am.
  • Our driver might be picking you up as early as 4:30 am depending on your hotel location.
  • Distance from the hotel to the pier will take 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic AND hotel location
  • Return transfers included for hotels anywhere ON Phuket island

  • Please, for your safety make SURE to fasten your seat belt, it is the law in Thailand, and YOU will be responsible for any issues (fine) in case of a police check
  • If you have ANY concerns about our driver, please call us, ask our driver to call us or let us know on arrival at the pier. Your feedback will be very much appreciated. Your safety and comfort means a lot to us

Number of passengers

  • To minimise the impact on nature and for the comfort of our passengers, we will take a maximum of 10 persons per trip
  • Our boat will go out with a MINIMUM of 4 persons and not less

Provisions

  • Our lunch is cooked on board a few minutes before serving
  • We buy every ingredient in the morning from the local market
  • Let us know if you need a special diet or if you have an allergy and we will TRY our best to match your diet
  • Snacks, pastries, cookies, soft drinks and water, available for free all-day
  • We do NOT sell alcohol on the boat. You are welcome to bring your own BUT with moderation, please
  • Not by conviction but because we are running the tour in a Muslim area and our experienced Captain, an “old” Muslim man, is very superstitious. PLEASE make sure not to bring any pork meat on the boat. If your hotel staff prepare a breakfast box for your morning start, please check that you have no pork meat in it.
  • We do not make extra money by selling snacks (chips, peanuts, etc.) so you are also welcome to bring your own

Tipping

  • Tipping is at your discretion but because we often get questions about tips, here are some ideas if it can help
  • Our staff get a monthly salary, but of course, they are always happy when getting extras to reward their excellent services
  • If giving a tip, we believe that a proper tip should range somewhere around 200 to 500 baht with a minimum of 100 baht, lower than this or giving “the last coins in your pocket” might be seen as an offence or showing your discontent
  • Tips can be given directly in the hands of your paddle man/guide looking after you thorough the day or directly to the captain, cook or guide. Every paddle-man getting a tip will share a certain % to the Captain, and the Captain will then share whatever he gets with the cook, boatman and guide
